History: From Hotel Los Lagos to Los Lagos Hotel, Spa & Resort

 After its surprising explosive awakening in July 1968, the after that called Arenal Volcano has opened the door to the ecological tourism in the zone of La Fortuna in San Carlos, Costa Rica. And pioneering the tourist potential exposed by the great natural assets in the area (tropical rainforest, waterfall, bird watching, Venado Cave and Lake Arenal), Hotel Los Lagos was among the first hotels at Arenal region in the beginnings of 90's. From that time, through continuous evolution and improvement, has become a full Hot Springs Hotel, Spa & Resort which provides a Costa Rica vacation as a truly enjoyable & unforgettable episode in our life.

 In the year 1984, the Cedeño Villegas Family began to build a large house and a high altar to join relatives. It was located near the area of the nearest of the two Arenal Volcano lakes, and after these lakes this site is named as "Los Lagos" ("The Lakes"), because of its rare splendor.

It was a fantastic place visited by so many people that they came from everywhere of the country to camp and to share with their families. Because of this, in 1985 the ticket admission rate was ¢50 colones. It was necessary then build more dream houses and to insert pedal boats.

In 1993, we built a cold water swimming pool and a snack restaurant. By the end of 1995, the first eight rooms were built and finished with the initial rate of $40. Over the years the area has developed and grown but in August 23rd, 2000, the volcano caused a great avalanche towards the north sector and unfortunately it killed two persons, who passed over the security limits. This area was then closed and nobody was be able go there. Due to the sensationalistic advertising against Arenal region, the hotel (and local companies as well) had the worst year of its history.

At that time, we made our crocodile farm and improve the hot springs facilities in order to increase our features and services. Actually, Los Lagos Hotel, Spa & Resort is the most rich, diverse, peaceful, adventurous and most restful place that you can find in the Arenal Area.
