Wetlands offers an astounding as well as fascinating habitat for aquatic birds, because of abundance of fish, mollusk, crustaceans, insects and much others spineless animals. Roseate Spoonbills sweeps the bottom with its specialized beak, assisting itself with its long and thin legs, in search of crustaceans; as well as Great Egrets does for small fishes. While doing this, some amount of fishes run away only to be caught by the Snowy Egret. Green Heron prefers the fishes at the shores. The Ibises feeds on fishes and crustaceans into the bottom mud. Wood Storks frighten fishes with its legs for catching them. Neotropic Cormorants make cooperative fishing, penning fishes with head immersed; and because of its non impermeable feathers, can be seen exposing its wings outspread posing as a "orchestra director" to get dry. Most of wild ducks come from the northern avoiding the winter, and they filter crustaceans and mollusks from mud with its beak.

The alternate seasonal cycles of flooding and dryness in some wetlands, creates an endless sequence in which the increased rains generates flooding, expanding the fishes habitat and providing them to raise its populations, that in turn attracts the birds because of the food abundance. Although most of this birds are aquatic, there are no wetland birds that cannot resist the temptation of being feed with insect larvae and crustaceans at the shores. A good example of this ecosystem is Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge and its surroundings.

According to the increasing of the the quantity of people doing bird watching and birding, there is growing concern about the impact of this activity on the birds and their habitat. So, a bird watching etiquette, whose need of settle down and practicing is obvious, is evolving in order to promote the welfare of birds and their natural environment; avoiding stressing the birds by controlled use of photography and video equipment, keeping back from nests and nesting colonies, and respecting general environmental guidelines as well.
